Summer Contest 2026
Challenges in the Next Century
A student writing contest for researched arguments, creative futures, and original voices.
Topic
The Next Century: Challenges and Possibilities
One hundred years ago, very few people could have imagined the internet, artificial intelligence, or the ability to communicate with others across the globe. The world changed in ways that would have seemed impossible to previous generations.
Today, we find ourselves at a similar moment. New technologies are developing faster than ever. On the other hand, climate change, global conflicts, and social challenges brought about by rapid development continue to shape our lives. Some people believe that the future will bring extraordinary progress, while others worry that the problems we face today may become even more difficult in the years ahead.
No one knows exactly what the next century will look like. Yet the questions we ask about the future often reveal what matters most to us in the present.
Writing Prompt
Research, analyze, or creatively imagine a significant challenge that individuals, communities, or societies may face during the next century.
Participants may focus on themes such as technology, climate and environment, justice, conflict, identity, education, community, scientific discovery, or another future issue they consider important.
